RARE ENDANGERED SPECIES OF BULGARIAN BAT

Bulgaria also has bats, these photos are of a bat with horns and sharp teeth! This Bulgarian bat was living inside one of my house bricks. We only knew there was a bat, when a wall had to be knocked down and during the demolition work, this bat fell with the bricks. The bat was carefully lifted out of the rubble and after a photo shoot to bring you the photos of this bat, it was release back into the wild! the bat flew off into another part of the house, no doubt to find a new brick to sleep in. Do bats have teeth? Yes! Do bats have horns? Yes!

Enjoy these few rare photos of this endangered and protected species of Bulgarian bat

The owner of this ostrich farm patiently told us about his Ostrich, how he came to set up the farm and soon he would be bringing his horses there as a second tourist activity, to hack in the superb hills of Southern Bulgaria.

The farm had a small cafe with some Ostrich souvenirs, Ostrich eggs, Ostrich feathers ostrich leather and photos to buy

He was telling us that ostrich farming is not easy. Lots of ostrich farms have failed, however, this ostrich farm was superbly located in the Smolyan region of southern Bulgaria the Rhodope mountains and was in a sheltered hillside location and this ostrich farmer was very successfully rearing ostrich. His ostrich produced many ostrich eggs. Ostrich eggs cost around about 50 leva each, so this ostrich farmer was very happy to be able to have so many eggs for sale! Selling the ostrich eggs helps him reinvest in his farm equipment and for housing the ostrich safely. We didn’t see any young ostrich on our visit, but these huge birds grow very quickly and do have quite a bite too! The little shop had ostrich souvenirs which we could buy, ostrich feathers, ostrich leather, even an ostrich egg to buy, but at 50 leva we gave that a miss! Ostrich meat was also on offer and we were given the chance to try some. These ostrich are not an easy animal to handle! I have heard that ostrich meat is very tasty, howevers, again on this visit to the farm, we gave it a miss! I have yet to try Ostrich meat and after seeing this motley crew, I doubt if i will ever eat their meat, I may just buy a feather and some of the egg shells that were also for sale instead! If you’ve ever wondered if Ostrich bite, the answer is yes! One love bite from a cute Bulgarian Ostrich

A VISIT TO AN OSTRICH FARM in BULGARIA
These ostrich are the cutest collection of live animal I have yet encountered, these Ostrich’s photo’d at an Ostrich farm set deep in the dense pine forests of southern Bulgaria were performing and posing for their photoshoot. You can clearly see their prehistoric type feet here, close up photos of the Ostrich on this small Ostrich farm rearing some mighty birds in the south Rhodope mountains of Bulgaria

flying tick like creature a tick with wings!

Animal Collection of close up photos of the wildlife of Bulgaria in The Beasts of the Balkans ! TICKS from DOGS and TICKS on CATS and suggestions on how to remove a tick from your cat or dogs fur. TICK in DOGS EAR!

HOW TO REMOVE A PARASITE living in YOUR DOGS EARS

Your animal maybe full of ticks the animal suffers while this blood sucking critter sucks blood until it falls off. You can remove the tick from your animal, but pay attention and be careful to remove the entire tick including the head of the blood sucking tick from your animal’s fur. An animal can die of Lyme Disease if an infected tick is left to suck its blood. A tick not only attaches itself to your animal, it can attach itself to a human and suck the blood of a human too! New in is this close up photo of the tick still in the dogs ear, I have another photo of a tick removed with its legs covered in the blood it was sucking from my dog, coming soon! You know by now that you must remove the tick with its head intact, or the blood sucking creature will grow another body to engorge itself again on the blood from your dog! If the tick has already grown to be big enough to see, the damage by the tick has already been done! Preventative medicine is the best cure for blood sucking parasite ticks! Early detection of a tick sucking blood from your dog is imperative for the good health of the animal!

TICK REMOVAL SUGGESTIONS

HOW TO AVOID TICKS ON YOUR ANIMAL

You cant really avoid ticks in your dogs ears!

These blood sucking parasites feed a feast on the blood of your dog, cat or other animal nearby host, sucking so much blood and becoming so engorged on their feast that they will eventually and naturally drop off if they are not removed, but not before maybe infecting your animal with Lyme Disease, a tick on your animal can be fatal to the animal. Removal of the parasite tick is not always a simple task either! Preventative medicine is always the preferred chosen method. If you see a tick and wish to remove it, you must make sure you remove the entire tick, including the head of the tick or it WILL grow another body to begin its engorging feast all over again on your animal. To remove the tick completely, it is best to either use tweezers, or in my own experience, I use my long nails and ensure I pull the tick before it is aware of what is going on, enabling easy and fast tick removal!

I personally do not advise smothering the parasite tick in vaseline or a similar substance, as that has not proven to be effective in the removal of these parasites and can just irritate your animal more until your animal scratches so much, it loses its fur. I have however noticed two kind of ticks and the teeny ticks I have recently been removing from my dogs are extremely small and very fast too. One ran up my hand and was very difficult to get off my skin although it hadn’t bitten into my skin yet! Howevers, I have also noticed on removal of one large engorged tick, that there maybe many male ticks around. The female tick is much larger than the teeny male tick. These male ticks can run quite fast and are around about the size of a pin head, quite flat and their legs appear to stick straight out from their dark coloured body. The female, on the other hand, is lighter in colour, fat even only slightly engorged on the blood of your animal, and her legs appear to be all located at the front of her huge body. When you decide to remove one of the female ticks, you must ensure full removal of the female tick, which includes the head, which no doubt will be firmly located deep within the skin of your cat or dog. If you fail to remove the head of the tick, the female tick has the ability to grow another body to fill up again on the blood of your pet! CLOSE UP OF THE TICK plus TICK in DOGS EARS TO SEE THE TICK! Dog ticks head deep inside my dogs skin and under the dogs fur, ticks seen in Bulgaria HOW DO YOU REMOVE A TICK FROM THE FUR OF A DOG or CAT or your animal SAFELY! HUGE TICK NOW IN DONT LOOK IF SQUEEMISH! this huge tick removed from my cat is engorged on the cat’s blood! Close up photos of the awesome head and engorged body of the dog tick! Dogs ticks for close up photos of these awesome dog ticks I did take the trouble to remove these ticks from the dog before taking the close up photos for you! Insect repellent in the form of Frontline flea and tick repellent dosn’t work! The ticks head still invade the dogs fur on a daily basis the ticks are donanated by the sheep which pass by the house and drop their ticks specially for the mut what a nice gift eh! Remove the head of the tick completely or it will grow another body and engorge itself on the blood of the dog once again! Tweezers or long fingers can usually safely remove the ticks head and you MUST MAKE SURE YOU REMOVE THE TICKS HEAD along with its body or it WILL GROW A NEW ONE and start sucking blood all over again! It is very wise to wash your hands after touching a dogs tick as these blood sucking ticks carry all kinds of diseases that can also affect humans. These ticks can attach themselves also to humans not just cats, dogs and sheep! SEE THE TICK and discover more, parasite ticks in dogs ear photos

THE FOUR CYCLES IN THE LIFE OF A BLOOD SUCKING TICK

Most ticks go throo four cycles of their life. The other day I encountered one tick at the very begining of its cycle. It was very small, not much larger than a normal dog flea. It was sitting on top of the fur and had not yet burrowed deep into the dogs skin. I was attempting to brush it off my finger and into an ashtray, this little tick held on for dear life! It was not easy to brush off! So how on earth do these little blood suckers move around if they cannot fly? Well first of all these are very patient little critters. They can and will wait for a passing fur ball and attach themselves pronto! They can also be picked up by birds, later, when engorged on enough blood, they will fall off and if they are very lucky, land right on the nearest next victim, be it a cat, dog or sheep. I always notice an increase of ticks on the cats and dogs when the huge herd of sheep have passed near my farm and although I treat my animals with flea and tick treatment, this is not really very effective considering the huge numbers of ticks still available to suck blood. Although I have found some crawl onto my hands after stroking one of my cats or dogs, so far I have been very lucky that one hasn’t buried into my own skin! Every day we are finding these ticks on the dog, the dog has been treated with Frontline flea and tick repellent which should repel these blood sucking insects.. but! I used to pull them out with my pinched fingernails, taking care to remove the head of the tick along with the body, if you don’t remove the head, it apparently grows another body and keeps feeding off the dogs blood! This tick I removed with the aid of tweezers and a friend holding the dog down securely! After looking at these close up photos, I dont think I ever wish to touch another tick again, even with my fingernails! Now I am itching like crazy! The dog however is sound asleep! TICKS THE BLOOD SUCKING PARASITE CRITTERS YOU DONT WANT UNDER YOUR SKIN! Dogs ticks to remove completely the tick from not only the dogs fur but make sure you get in close and personal and remove the entire head of the tick, perhaps use a magnifying glass or good camera afterwards to check you have indeedy removed the entire blood sucking creature! To come here for close up photos of ticks heads and blood engorged body of the dog ticks first remove tick from fur can they live on humans can they live on cats how to remove these ticks from cats dogs sheep ticks blood sucking animals live on humans as well as animals but remove the head carefully wash your hands too how these ticks get around fly with the aid of a bird land on cat dog or sheep dont remove head it will grow another body and blood suck all over again feeding off the blood of your dog! Frontline other flea pest control products does frontline or flea shampoo really work to keep these ticks off your pet what happens if you dont remove the head of the tick I did take the trouble to remove these ticks from the dog before taking the close up photos of these blood sucking insects for you! Horrible blood sucking parasites Insect repellent in the form of Frontline flea and tick repellent dosn’t work! The ticks still invade the dogs fur on a daily basis the ticks are donanated by the sheep and birds which pass by your house! PARASITE TICKS BLOOD SUCKING BEASTS of the BALKANS carrying Lyme Disease Close up shots of the awesome tick that was sucking blood from my dog! This tick was removed from inside her ear SOME BULGARIAN DOGS carrying these ticks THE BULGARIAN SHEEP DOG this tick was removed from DOG TICKS of BULGARIA TICKS THE BLOOD SUCKING PARASITE CRITTERS YOU DONT WANT UNDER YOUR SKIN and can carry Lyme Disease, a tick sucking your blood can cause disease DOG TICKS in your dogs fur and under their skin in BULGARIA HOW ON EARTH DO YOU REMOVE A DOG TICK FROM DEEP IN THE DOGS FUR? CAN THESE TICKS ATTACH THEMSELVES TO HUMANS? HOW DO THESE TICKS MOVE AROUND FROM ANIMAL to ANIMAL? DO TICKS CARRY DISEASES? HOW DO THESE TICKS SPREAD DISEASE TICK ENGORGED ON CAT’s BLOOD I removed this huge tick engorged with blood off my cat, took photos then destroyed the parasite! How did I ensure that this tick couldn’t suck on my pets blood again, well, some people set them alight with fire and some people splat the tick, purrrsonally I prefer to wrap into a dry tissue and set the tissue alight. It may sound cruel, but these ticks carry disease and will keep sucking until they are full.

The White horse featured here is getting on in years and since my arrival in Bulgaria, I have seen her, unshackled and roaming free between the many fields and on down to the river, she often joins her friends in the roaming pack, but the grey horse usually stands peacefully grazing on her own, now, I know that many people will huff at me for daring to call a ‘grey’ horse white, but she is white, typically peaceful Bulgarian temperament This local herd of horses are free to roam wherever the grass is greener … and here in southern Bulgaria, the grass is very green! This pack of ‘wild’ horses roam close to the local river and although I use the word ‘wild’ these horses are naturally peaceful and almost tame Some of the horses that join them are working horses that are allowed, in their free time, to join their friends in a little jaunt across river. This is a working Bulgarian horse joining the pack to show off his new shoes! The can be nothing quite as lovely as seeing a horse free to roll in the mud to coat itself! One foal takes its time to look around at all her new friends. So many times I pass a young three day old foal out in the fields with its mother. Usually there are many aunties around too, the entire herd will completely surround a foal, if they feel the foal is in any danger. Luckily my camera zooms in from afar, because I do not doubt that these horses would have no hesitation to kick me out of the way of their foals. Plus of course the wild pack that often arrive on the farm to see if any carrots are available!

FOALS with their MOTHER Here’s a very happy and warm welcome to Bulgaria’s latest baby! This beautiful foal is just 3 days old and her proud mother and Bulgarian owner couldn’t have been happier to let the two get aquainted with the open land to wander off into the fields full of goodness. PLUS NEW FOAL PHOTOS WITH MOTHER AND FATHER! THE STUD or STALLION I caught the newborn foal together with her mother high up and still running wild – now 6 days old and looking very good! Another foal has been born here he’s photographed with both his proud mother and father as we approached he was sleeping soundly, the second he caught sight of the camera he lifted his head to pose for us! Bulgaria is full of working and wild horses and ponies. They are very well taken care of especially as there is competition for work and the best horse wins! Photos of the foal with its father the Bulgarian Stud at large! Riding around in my jeep I have spotted many wild and free Bulgarian Horses. The Wild and Tame Horses of Bulgaria There are many horses in Bulgaria, their temperment is extraordinarily docile. We had a wild pack of horses near our land, mingling with the tame working horses of the local Bulgarians without any problems! The working horses are kitted out with beautiful headresses, bridles and sadles and are in superb condition, are treated very well and allowed time to enjoy Bulgarian nature at it’s best. We have seen many wild packs of horses that are free to roam the Bulgarian countryside and villages, the horses look tame enough to ride and usually avoid getting hit by passing cars, although we have seen one horse that looked like it had a run in with a car, it was still roaming with the rest of the wild pack. Near the main market at the town roundabout many men sell their services for carting goods backwards and forwards their services are for sale at a very affordable price! Eco friendly transport by horse and cart! BULGARIAN HORSES WORKING HORSES WILD HORSES Driving along you can catch photos of these Bulgarian Horses working at almost every turn of the road. The horses are treated as a valued member of the Bulgarian Family and the Bulgarians working the horses always have time for a wave, after all, they arn’t in a rush to get anywhere! I even spotted a grey with its dark coloured foal, plus a couple of horses hiding in the wilderness where they were resting in the heat of the day! The Bulgarian working horses are regularly rested and watered! The Wild Horses of Bulgaria Here are photos of our local wild pack of horses. They are extremely peaceful and often lead the ‘owned’ horse astray! The horse in the photo below right has once again broken free and was running with the wild pack! Two of the wild horses took one look at me and whinnied to the others to move along! As you can see from these photos, even the wild Bulgarian horses are in superb condition! This wild pack of Bulgarian horses often stray off to find greener pastures, yet always seem to return to lead astray some of the local working horses! They peacefully graze, often calling out to each other and are always given right of way while they are walking along the main roads of Bulgaria! Bulgaria is full of working and wild horses and ponies. They are very well taken care of especially as there is competition for work and the best horse wins the job. The Bulgarian horses are currently in foal. Now we have photos of two of the newborn Bulgarian foals! Although I have yet to come across a formal equestrian centre, I have seen many of these beautiful Bulgarian horses being riden by the locals and the gypsys of Bulgaria. The horses here are not mistreated neither are they confined to the local riding school, I’m not sure about horses that are for sale or if you can take and tame one of the wild ones, but I will ask next time I encounter a Bulgarian who can speak enough English or when my Bulgarian greatly improves!

Bulgarian horses are well known in the equestrian world of horses for being of quiet and kind temperment. The horses in southern Bulgaria are all free to roam wherever the grass is greener! Oftentimes visiting my house here to show off their newborns! Many horses in southern Bulgaria are used for real time work among the Roma population and in Kardzhali main town, you can still hire a horse and cart with driver to deliver your goods for you. The gypsy horses are in superb tip top condition and are very well fed, groomed and adorned with beautiful colourful tack. Driving along you can catch photos of these Bulgarian Horses working at almost every turn of the road. The horses are treated as a valued member of the Bulgarian Family and the Bulgarians working the horses always have time for a wave, after all, they arn’t in a rush to get anywhere!

BLACK n ORANGE CENTIPEDE

a DANGEROUS CENTIPEDE a CRITTER of BULGARIA

I came across this lovely little dangerous centipede as I turned over a large stone on my farm in Bulgaria!

Later on in the week, a local Bulgarian showed me around a disused school house and there was another dangerous centipede running across the floor. He promptly attempted to squash it.

Dangerous orange and red Bulgarian centipede in Bulgaria

It acted just like a worm with the severed parts of it’s body still moving!

He also informed me that this is indeed a dangerous critter, I had only encountered these centipedes before in Thailand where the many legs and the body were orange, this centipede had a black body as you can see from the close up photos!

BEWARE THERE ARE DANGEROUS CRITTERS IN BULGARIA!

I have also been advised that if I get bitten by one of these orange and black centipedes, it should resemble a bee sting, I should make the wound bleed to extract any poison, they told me to use amonia on it and to visit a doctor if the irritation lasts more than a couple of days!

How poisonous is this dangerous centipede? I didn’t hang around to find out!

Dangerous creatures close up photos of dangerous centipede and creepy crawlies seen in Bulgaria

Close up photos of the awesome but rather dangerous centipede in Bulgaria, take care not to disturb this little critter!

Well this preying mantis was eating the dead flower off of my Lavender bush!

I couldn’t see any bugs in the empty flower from the Lavendula, so my guess is this praying mantis was eating the dead flower as roughage after a beanfeast of bugs!

PLUS the praying mantis can hang upside down on a pink flower stalk!

Check out how big and beautiful the praying mantis huge googly eyes are!

This praying mantis dosn’t only eat bugs, it eats my Lavender flower heads!

So although one preying mantis is called mantis, more than one mantis are mantid, I have had many preying mantid around my basil bush and in my home. The preying mantis will keep very still in the hope that humans and animal do not spot it as a tasty morsel.

Praying Mantis appears more times in Google searches than praying mantis. Thing is, the mantis both preys and prays! Close up photos of the Bulgarian Praying Mantis. These close up photos taken of the Bulgarian praying mantis, although oftentimes known as they preying mantis, it makes no odds, this mantis has huge teeth and gripping claws to kill its prey and stalks elegantly. This lovely praying mantis was chilling out in my Basil bush as I poured water over the bush, it rushed out before it got completely soaked.

I took many photos and here’s two pages of some of them. I have reduced the quality of the photos to allow them to load fast for you. Enjoy this beautiful Praying Mantis of Bulgaria bite back! I will soon be posting some new photos of these fantastic creatures of Bulgaria! I was admiring the Mantis, then I enlarged the photos! You can clearly see the devastating teeth of the mantis and the huge eye sockets here! I think I saw the film! …Alien! The Praying mantis can swivel its head around to view its prey or to check you out Picture you can see its prey. This fly stood his leaf and for quite a while there was a stand off as the fly and the mantis sussed each other out. You can clearly see the mantis’s head rotating to follow the fly’s movements as the mantis gracefully moved in for the kill! The Fly gazes down at the Praying Mantis below! Alas the graceful mantis was too slow and the prey got away, we received an accusing look! The Mantis flytrap! The fly tries to hide in and out
of the leaves all the time the mantis follows its prey The Mantis gazes up at the fly above! the graceful head movements of the mantis who is able to rotate his head around to view his prey the formidable teeth and… the huge bulging eyes of the Bulgarian Praying Mantis
the Mantis showed us just how agile he is, twisting and turning his head and body to check out his prey and get a drink of water the mantis has formidable pincers that can give you a nasty pinch if you try to hold this creature! It may be harmless to humans, but flys beware!
Its close as to which it should be called, it does pray and it does for sure prey! Picture photos above you can clearly see its prey. This fly stood his leaf and for quite a while there was a stand off as the fly and the mantis sussed each other out. You can clearly see the mantis’s head rotating to follow the fly’s movements as the mantis gracefully moved in for the kill! the praying mantis has formidable pincers that can give you a nasty pinch if you are a fly! It may be harmless to humans, but flys beware! WILDLIFE in Bulgaria is full creepy crawlies, this one is straight off an alien film! Preying in my basil bush and giving us guilty looks and showing its vicious teeth and formidable pincers! This truly is one of Bulgaria’s best creatures! But does the praying mantis bite humans? These close up photos show a mean set of teeth on the mantis, but its head is so small that the teeth are not large enough neither can the mouth open wide enough to bite a human, although they can give a nasty pinch, but hey, why would anyone wish to taunt a praying mantis into giving them a pinch! Look but don’t touch!
