These photos show
a beautiful green
lizard in Bulgaria!
He had climbed into the large water bowl next to the spring tap. Unfortunately for him, he couldn't climb out again! I took the opportunity to grab a few photos of him before he was released! He posed a few times for the camera and looked cautiously around before clambering out of the bowl! Once out he scurried off into the undergrowth and we havn't seen this lizard again! However we have seen many other lizards! They are common to Bulgaria!
Although I havn't seen any little gekkos around the lights at night catching the mosquitoes or other night bugs! The difference I have noticed between gekkos and lizards is that lizards stand up high on their front legs while gekkos remain tight to the wall they are clinging to
COLD BLOODED REPTILES of BULGARIA
This reptile is cold blooded and needs the warmth of the sun to warm itself up and get itself going, the lizards can usually be found by searching for small holes in the earth near a cow pat. That way the lizard has a warm and safe home plus ready food when the flies land on the cow pat!
All the lizards I have so far seen in Bulgaria are much larger than the common Gekko, common to Greece that is, because I have yet to spot one Gekko! These reptiles are not dangerous to humans, just don't go cornering one! The much larger lizard in Thailand called the Touke can give a very nasty bite and is said to hold on to your finger and won't let go, if you corner it! These lovely reptiles are quite shy of humans, although they do seem to love a photoshoot or two!
